Transient materials one day could be ordered remotely to self destruct as necessary. Iowa State University assistant professor of mechanical engineering Reza Montazami is working on polymers that hold this potential, with a wide array of possible uses from medicine to the credit card industry. "Just think, if you lose your credit card, you could send out a signal that causes the card to self-destruct," said Montazami.
