L.A. Teachers Pick New Union Head

The Los Angeles teachers union has elected John Perez as its new president, and the veteran high school educator's first challenge will be leading the group into contract talks with the L.A. school district. Perez takes his seat in July, and unless an agreement is reached beforehand, he will lead the push for a 5% salary increase for teachers. The school district has said it's already facing a more than $400 million budget shortfall.
