Boston seeks to expand pilot school program

Boston public school officials are inviting teachers and principals from the city's 14 charter schools to turn their schools into pilot schools, which, while still under the district's control, enjoy more freedom than traditional schools, but less autonomy than charters. Unlike charters, however, the city's 19 pilot schools allow teachers to enjoy union pay, protection and benefits.
