Florida bill allowing Citizens' expansion moves ahead

Florida's Senate Banking and Insurance Committee approved a bill Monday that would allow state-run Citizens Property Insurance to expand and solidify its tax-exempt status. Insurers have criticized the measure, and Property Casualty Insurers Association Assistant Vice President William Stander said it could result in the insurance industry subsidizing homeowners who could afford higher rates.
