CenturyTel will use new spectrum on wireless overlay

Rural telecom services carrier CenturyTel has earmarked the 700 MHz licenses it won during the FCC's recent wireless spectrum auction to boost its wireline voice and data coverage in more isolated areas. The company, which did not disclose its technological plans or a timetable, said it would not gain access to the spectrum until 2009.
