Teen pilot solos in grandfather's restored aircraft

Strong crosswinds prevented a student pilot from soloing on his 16th birthday, but Kyle Bushman of Creswell, Ore., eventually reached the goal he has worked toward for eight years. Bushman was introduced to flying by his grandfather, Ralph Halderman, and the two have flown 1,800 miles together in Halderman's restored 1951 Navion. "It seemed like it couldn't happen fast enough," Bushman said of having to wait a week for his chance to solo. "I just wanted to fly."
