Program to encourage teacher education falters in Fla.

A program in Hillsborough County, Fla., intended to pay tuition costs for high-school students who agree to pursue teaching degrees and work in the district's inner-city schools is underfunded, officials say. To date, the district has raised $18,000 -- less than what is needed to fulfill the district's commitment to the two dozen students graduating this year. Officials, however, say they intend to keep their promise and find a solution to the funding issue.
