Facebook to cut off messaging in main mobile app

Facebook will stop allowing wireless device users (first in select European countries) to send private messages to friends through the social media company's core mobile application. Instead, subscribers will need to download a stand-alone app to send messages via their mobile devices. Facebook is pushing mobile users to rely on its seven separate apps for many of its features as more people move toward employing smartphones and tablets to go online.
