Grocery coupons can help shoppers eat healthier

Grocers can encourage healthy eating by offering coupons for fresh, unprocessed foods, Lenny Bernstein writes. Researchers recently found that less than 5% of coupons available online nationwide offer discounts on vegetables, unprocessed meats or canned fruits. Other researchers partnered with a health insurance company to provide healthy food coupons, recipes and other information to people with type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions and found that purchases of healthy food increased 4.5% from 2011 to 2012.
