Texas education board rejects stand-alone Mexican-American studies course

The Texas Board of Education on Wednesday decided not to vote on a proposal to add an official state Mexican-American studies class. Instead, it passed a plan on an 11-3 vote to ask publishers to submit textbooks for locally developed courses that include studies focused on several ethnic groups by the 2016-17 school year.
