Foremost Farms faces tough loss

Dairy co-op Foremost Farms USA reported a $12.5 million loss in 2006, citing federal marketing laws and stiff California competition. "Even though we had our first operating loss ever, we are still financially stable," a company spokeswoman said. The co-op, which is owned by about 3,000 farmers, says it has not planned any layoffs.
