Growing U.S. trade deficit surprises economists

The U.S. trade deficit grew from a revised estimate of $59 billion in January to $62.3 billion in February, the Commerce Department reported. The increase surprised economists because the economic slowdown was expected to suppress demand for foreign goods. Instead, import sales had their biggest jump in nearly a year.
