Fish oil combined with cancer drug could reduce breast tumors

Omega-3 fatty acids help boost the breast cancer drug tamoxifen, according to research. Scientists found that tumor-induced rats treated with a combination of fish oil and tamoxifen best "reduced the expression of genes linked to tumor growth and spreading of cancer," according to this article. "If a tumor was being treated with tamoxifen, the addition of an omega-3 fatty acid diet seemed to make the tumor, at least at the molecular level, more benign and less aggressive and responsive to tamoxifen," said Dr. Jose Russo of Fox Chase Cancer Center.
