Lawmakers defend Energy Dept.'s loan-guarantee program

Reps. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Diana DeGette, D-Colo., defended the Department of Energy against allegations of impropriety for awarding a loan guarantee to Solyndra, a solar-energy firm supported by fundraisers for President Barack Obama. "We have not received any information or documents that suggest any impropriety, wrongdoing, or favoritism in the award of the Solyndra loan guarantee or any other [Energy Dept.] loan guarantee," the lawmakers said in a letter to Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., chairman of the House energy panel's Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
