Maine board upholds permit for $360M wind project; 400 construction jobs expected

The Maine Board of Environmental Protection voted to uphold the Department of Environmental Protection's decision to issue a permit to First Wind's Oakfield wind project in Aroostook County, Maine. The group Protect Our Lakes and a resident had challenged the DEP's decision, saying the agency failed to consider the project's impact on the area's wildlife and scenery. The $360 million project could create as many as 400 jobs during its construction, First Wind said.
