Nasdaq and CME combine for new high-speed link

CME Group and Nasdaq OMX are joining forces to create a faster link between data sites in Illinois and New Jersey. The link, which will only carry market information, not orders, is expected to shave slightly more than 4 milliseconds of transmission time off of a one-way trip. "What's exciting is you are getting as close as possible to the theoretical speed of light," said Shawn Melamed of Strike Technologies, the company tasked with building the network.
