Big Data set to transform manufacturing

Big Data, in a sense, is nothing new, as the information has always been available, writes Greg Goodwin of LNS Research. What is new is the ability to gather and analyze data in ways that lead to better production and forecasting, including maintenance, "that could enable greater operational efficiency, better anticipate order lead times, shorten asset/machine downtimes and make materials purchasing and WIP decisions more effectively," Goodwin writes.
