Developing native grass takes care but could save money

Native grasses can require less maintenance than conventional turf grass, and they adapt to local growing conditions, writes Cathie Schroeder. However, gardeners must make careful preparation and management of the native grass, she notes. Existing grass and any weeds must be taken out and compacted soils need to be tilled to make way for native grass, adds Schroeder.
