Is reading aloud an effective way to learn?

Teachers are divided over whether reading aloud -- known as the round-robin approach -- is beneficial, writes Washington Post education columnist and blogger Jay Mathews. One teacher says students can become disengaged while reading aloud, while another says students can read independently and then aloud to learn lessons about foreshadowing, diction and syntax.
