Solar panels subjected to stress tests for safety

Underwriters Laboratories has built a facility outside Frankfurt, Germany, to test solar panels. Stress tests on the solar panels range from mock hailstorms to high humidity and heat. According to the Department of Energy, the number of solar panels installed or made in the U.S. has grown from 20,000 in 2000 to 520,000 in 2008.
