With the retirement of Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, American environmentalists have lost one of their staunchest allies inside the Beltway, writes Jonathan Hiskes. That would be bad news at any time, he adds, but notes that the immediate risk is that lengthy confirmation hearings for Stevens' replacement will leave lawmakers with no time to focus on climate and energy reforms before the midterm elections.
