With social media guidelines from the FDA's Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising, and Communications now delayed, the industry should continue to use social media in innovative ways, within the bounds of the existing regulatory infrastructure, according to Coalition for Healthcare Communication Executive Director John Kamp. "The new guidelines will not include new Internet and social media marketing policy," said Kamp, who indicated that the industry needs to forge ahead with this medium. "Doctors and patients are using the Internet at increasing rates," he said. "If we want to remain relevant, we must participate and do so within the existing rules." Read more.
