FDA expected to allow Monsanto to grow soybeans in open fields

The FDA is expected to give Monsanto the go-ahead to cultivate its biotech soybeans that can produce a type of omega-3 fatty acid, stearidonic acid, in 2012, according to this Science News article. The oil derived from Monsanto's biotech crop is being incorporated into foods after the soy received "generally recognized as safe" status from the FDA in 2010.
