Gulf Coast eateries are still waiting for tourism to pick up

Gulf Coast restaurants already battered by two years of the recession took another massive hit on April 20, 2010, when a BP oil rig exploded. Many restaurants are still waiting for insurance and compensation checks and dealing with the spill's aftermath. Workers have opted to take higher wages for clean-up work, and negative stories in the international media are still keeping tourists away despite assurances of clean beaches and safe seafood.
