FERC examines Barclays for possible market manipulation

The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is looking into possible manipulation of California's electricity markets by Barclays and some of its former traders. FERC said the bank allegedly traded enough electricity to affect exchange prices to the benefit of parallel swaps positions. The notice indicates "that the agency is taking a more aggressive position on activities that some would view as ordinary hedging," Winston & Strawn lawyers wrote on a blog.
