Industry seeks to label products with lean, finely textured beef

Two companies selling meat that contains lean, finely textured beef are seeking approval for a label to place on products containing the controversial ingredient. The label, which requires USDA approval, could help restore consumer confidence, according to the companies. None of the ammonium hydroxide used to sanitize the product is likely to be present after cooking, an FDA spokesman said.
