New building in Pittsburgh scales the heights of green standards

The Phipps Conservatory's Center for Sustainable Landscapes in Pittsburgh was built to the Living Building Challenge's standards and expects to attain LEED Platinum. The center is a net-zero energy and water user and boasts "geothermal, solar and wind sources" that will help it use 80% less energy than an ordinary office building of the same size. The site has a comprehensive water-treatment system and constructed wetlands.
