Rising energy costs raise doubts about recovery, Fed says

The slow expansion of the U.S. economy continued through the winter but retailers and manufacturers express growing fears about rising energy costs, according to the Federal Reserve's latest Beige Book. "While the near-term outlook for household spending was encouraging, contacts in several districts expressed concerns that rising gas prices could limit discretionary spending in the months to come," the report said.
