U.S. cybersecurity chief targets botnets

The Obama administration is launching an "all fronts" war on botnets, which hackers use to launch malicious attacks and initiate network breaches, according to Howard Schmidt, the White House cybersecurity chief. Schmidt has called for the establishment of a private-public coalition, including Internet service providers, vendors, privacy-rights advocates and trade associations, whose goal is to raise awareness of botnets and to develop strategies for mitigating their danger to consumers and businesses.
