Mars photos appear to show remnants of Soviet spacecraft

Photos taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter appear to show the remains of a Soviet spacecraft that landed on the Red Planet in 1971, a group of space enthusiasts from Russia say. The Mars 3 lander was the first to survive on Mars long enough to send data back to Earth -- it went dark after sending several seconds of data. Other researchers say the features uncovered by the group seem to resemble the Mars 3 lander, though they caution that further examination is needed.
