Pratt & Whitney engine nears first test in flight

Pratt & Whitney's first PW1100G engine for Airbus’ A320NEO is about to undergo flight testing; another will have structural tests; a third will have high-pressure spool tests; and a fourth has started endurance testing. One of the tests will be used to determine whether an originally planned variable-area fan nozzle, which maintains blade stability and could produce fuel savings, will remain part of the final design.
