Senate showdown coming on DTC ad restrictions

Legislation that could restrict direct-to-consumer advertising of drugs is expected to be acted on this week by a Senate committee. One proposal would allow the FDA to ban DTC ads for the first two years of a new drug. The drug and ad industries fear the FDA would use that authority to broadly ban ads for all new drugs.
