Amtrak aims for larger role in high-speed rail build-out

As Amtrak pulls together its newly created high-speed rail department, the railway is making plans for "major improvements" on its Northeast Corridor, including raising speed and frequency of service. The new department will also likely pursue relationships with California and Florida, whose bullet train plans are moving full speed ahead.
