India to allow foreigners to climb Himalayan peaks

The Indian government has decided to allow foreigners to climb dozens of peaks in the Himalayas on the Indian side of Kashmir for the first time. The move, an effort to lure tourists, comes as violence in the region has declined significantly. "We are optimistic that the decision will give a big boost to tourism and attract more and more foreign tourists," said Farooq Ahmed Shah, an Indian tourism official.
