Senator calls for carry-on bag fee legislation

A New York senator may introduce legislation that would bar airlines from charging fees for carry-on luggage. "Peanuts may not be reasonably necessary for air travel, but the ability to carry a bag onto a flight is," said Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer. Schumer sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to repeal a regulation that exempts such fees from federal taxes. Meanwhile, Transportation Secretry Ray LaHood said he would address the new carry-on luggage fee launched by Spirit Airlines, and Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., is calling for legislation requiring clear disclosure of fees to customers.
