"Surround vision" expands TV screen using wireless devices

MIT Media Lab has invented technology that uses smartphones or handheld Web devices to enable viewers to keep tabs on objects even after they have left the borders of traditional TV screens, according to an Internet report. Dubbed "surround vision," the technology -- which would let a viewer watch a car chase off-screen by pointing the wireless device in its direction -- might not be too far from its commercial deployment, according to MIT researchers.
