Regularly remove thatch to keep lawn healthy, expert says

Healthy lawns often develop thatch, a layer of dead and living grass stems that should be removed regularly to keep the lawn green, said Tom Cook, turf grass specialist with the Oregon State University Extension Service. A dethatcher or a thatching rake can help eradicate thatch, and stimulate the growth of new grass shoots, Cook noted.
