Calif. companies find creative ways to make wellness programs work

Increasing health care costs led Farmers and Merchants Bank in Long Beach, Calif., to start a 10,000-step walking program for employees and offer advice on nutrition and exercise. Hill Brothers Transportation's wellness program has helped participants lose more than 183 pounds and get in 1,012 hours of exercise since January. "We wanted to offer our drivers and their families an opportunity to be proactive at living a healthier, more productive lifestyle," said the company's Wellness Committee member Abbie Reed.
