Death sentence shines spotlight on shadow banking in China

A Chinese court sentenced Wu Ying to death for taking millions of dollars from investors without repaying them in a case that highlights issued within the shadow-banking system. Yang Zhaodong, Wu's attorney, said she was unfairly targeted, as millions of Chinese business owners depend on shadow banking. "Entrepreneurs are paying attention to it because today's Wu Ying could be any of them tomorrow," Yang said. "There are so many of them doing the same thing Wu Ying did. This case not only relates to Wu's life but to whether China's legal and judicial system is fair."
