The number of postpaid customers may have declined for the first time in several years in the first quarter, according to a research note from the investment banking firm Jefferies & Co., which noted that the industry usually slumps in the quarter after the introduction of a new iPhone. Analyst Thomas Seitz predicted modest growth in contracted subscribers for Verizon Wireless and AT&T and declines at Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA.
