Sprint sees iDEN morphing into LTE in 2014

Sprint Nextel updated reporters Thursday on its Long-Term Evolution plans, saying it will deploy LTE-Advanced technology by next year and move its 800 MHz push-to-talk iDEN network onto LTE in 2014 as part of the carrier's Network Vision strategy. Senior Vice President Bob Azzi expressed confidence that the Federal Communications Commission would approve the iDEN refarming. Sprint also said it would ship its first 4G LTE eco-friendly phone, the $100 LG Viper, on April 22, which is Earth Day. The phone will run in 3G mode initially.
