U.S. airlines paid almost $3 per gallon of fuel in February

The average fuel cost for U.S. airlines continued to climb in February, Department of Transportation data show. Fuel cost U.S. airlines $2.98 a gallon in February, compared with $2.77 a gallon for the same month last year. Airlines consumed a total of 1.21 billion gallons of fuel for scheduled flights in February.
