The Q1 earnings announcement from Yahoo! last week provided still more evidence that the online ad market is on the rebound, and eMarketer's analysis reveals that Yahoo! is surging ahead of its erstwhile competitors. Yahoo!'s first quarter 2004 revenues shot up 91% versus the same quarter one year ago, and its "marketing services" revenue (primarily driven by advertising) increased by an astounding 120% to reach $418 million. This growth is faster than that of the overall industry, which in the U.S. alone grew 20% in 2003. On a worldwide basis, Yahoo! also rocks, and by eMarketer's estimation, the portal takes in 12.8% of all global online ad spending. The three leading portals together controlled 31% of all online ad dollars.
