Agriculture Department report advises better oversight of meat safety

Government efforts to ensure U.S. meat safety are sorely lacking, according to a March 25 report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Food-safety agencies need to coordinate efforts and ramp up recalls to eliminate contaminants such as veterinary drugs, pesticides and heavy metals from the nation's beef supply, the report says.
