Mass. debarking bill awaits governor's signature

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is reviewing a bill that would outlaw debarking surgery on in-state cats and dogs, except for medical necessities. A breeder who opposes the bill said that the measure would only cause more deaths and that debarking should only be considered as a last resort, adding that AVMA also does not support an all-out ban on the procedure.
