Report: Interior inaccurately gauges production on federal leases

A number of factors have affected the Interior Department's ability to accurately measure oil and gas production on federal leases, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office. Among the factors include limited oversight, inconsistent policies and lack of coordination. The department also reduced its estimation of the hazards of onshore oil and gas drilling from medium to low, the GAO found.
