The propane propellant in the capsicum sprays used by some police forces to subdue suspects can easily ignite, causing a potentially lethal blaze, according to a police weapons expert. Pepper-spray fires have been implicated in at least one death, prompting calls for police to switch to nitrogen-propelled aerosols.
