Two-item depression screening tool works for children

A report in Pediatrics found the two-item Patient Health Questionnaire is a good way to detect major depression among adolescents. The test had sensitivity of 74% and specificity of 75% for identifying youth who met "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition," criteria for major depression using a structured mental health interview.
