EU emissions-trading plan could see delayed takeoff

Lufthansa has called for a 12-month delay to the implementation of the Emissions Trading Scheme in the European Union because of unresolved issues over airlines' inclusion. The China Air Transport Association also criticized the ETS scheme last month for including nonmember carriers from developing countries. LH Group CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber called for a delay to the ETS last year because of market distortions in Northern Europe and Scandinavia in the aftermath of the volcanic ash cloud.
