Drug premiums for higher-income seniors to rise under Obama plan

The budget proposed by President Barack Obama includes increases in monthly Medicare premiums tied to income for prescription and outpatient drug coverage. The increases would be worth $50 billion over 10 years. Four income brackets would be further divided into nine beginning in 2017. A senior with an $85,000 income would owe approximately $168 for outpatient coverage monthly, compared with the present rate of $146.90.
